Recently, “Suicide Club” director Sion Sono has seen his biggest box office opening in Japan yet with “Himizu” generating 3.5 million yen in two days. No stranger to controversial subject matter, “Himizu” found the director exploring the impact of the March tsunami and now word comes that his next film, “Land of Hope,” will take place after a large earthquake and a Fukushima-type nuclear incident.
Sono revealed he has actually been sneaking into the Fukushima zone as research for the film. Says Sono: “I fear that we will simply become desensitized to the idea of radiation in time and ‘co-exist’ with it.” You can expect “Land of Hope” in Japanese theaters in late summer: http://www.cityonfire.com/sion-sono-doesnt-know-the-meaning-of-the-phrase-too-soon-next-pic-to-be-set-in-post-fukushima-japan/
